Although there are many causes for cracking, the expansion and contraction of the earth beneath the home is usually the root cause. Whatever the source, the effects of this damage have the potential to worsen over time. If left unattended, a single crack can result in water damage, insect infestation, and the development of mold.
If you’ve noticed cracks in your brickwork, it’s essential to act quickly. Our team of skilled professionals has years of experience repairing damaged masonry, and we utilize a specific process for matching the mortar to what’s existing on your home. Don’t let cracked bricks compromise the safety and aesthetic appeal of your property.
Our skilled professionals will inspect the affected area and assess the extent of the damage to determine the appropriate repair solution.
Before replacing the cracked brickwork, we will prepare the area by removing any loose mortar or debris. This is usually accomplished by using a angle grinder followed by a series of large and small chisels.
We will mix mortar to match the color and texture of the surrounding bricks for a seamless repair. We accomplish this by creating a series of dried samples. We start off light on the dye and work it in slowly so we don't overshoot the mark. This makes matching the mortar a more time consuming process but our goal is to be a top-tier provider. You will have a chance to sign off on the final mortar sample before we proceed with the job. The mortar match is guaranteed.
Using specialized tools, we will carefully fill in the voids with the prepared mortar, ensuring that it is evenly distributed and properly adhered to the existing brickwork.
Once the mortar has been applied, we will smooth the surface to match the texture of the surrounding brickwork. To accomplish this we use what's referred to as a barrel jointer which is far superior to the finishing tools being sold at big box stores. We will also ensure that the width of the joints is uniform with the surrounding masonry.
After the repair is complete, we will use a sponge to clean the area. However, through the process of rinsing the sponge in the bucket, there will inevitably be some amount of smearing due to the fact that no matter how many times you refresh the bucket there will always be some degree of murkiness to the water. We use a product called Sure Clean which is a masonry product that utilizes both acid and soap to remove any residue that will inevitably be left behind in the form of smearing. Due to the fact that the acid will compromise the integrity of the mortar if applied before the mortar has finished curing, we let the mortar cure for at least 24-48 hours depending on the weather and then return to apply the acid. As far as payment is concerned, we consider the job complete prior to the application of acid, but if you want to withhold 10% as an insurance policy then we're ok with that.
